Pioneering justice through scholarship, insight, and innovation

Welcome to my professional website: www.kathleendaly.net

It contains featured and forthcoming publications, the latest info on my current research, all past publications and reports, media stories and news, and much more. If you have trouble accessing any material, let me know (k.daly@griffith.edu.au). Here’s a bit about me.

I am Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Griffith University in Brisbane, where I’ve lived and worked for 30 years. I received my PhD in sociology from the University of Massachusetts in 1983. My first academic job was at the State University of New York-Albany (1982), followed by academic positions at Yale University (1983-92) and the University of Michigan (1992-95). In 1995, I traveled to Australia as a Senior Fulbright Scholar to study restorative justice at the Australian National University, hosted by John Braithwaite.

Over the years, my research and writing have been on feminist and critical race theories, crime, and criminal justice; restorative justice and Indigenous sentencing courts; responses to sexual, partner, and family violence; and civil, money, and institutional justice. My current research, the Institutional Redress Project, analyses responses to institutional abuse and neglect of children and related historical/policy wrongs in 22 countries or self-governing territories. See flyer here.

In 2024, I received the Sutherland Award from the American Society of Criminology.
